Access Shuttle
Purpose
To provide free on-campus transportation for students, faculty, staff, and on a case-by-case basis, visitors to the university with permanent or temporary conditions that limit mobility or make getting around campus a challenge. The access shuttle is a scheduled, shared ride service provided to students, staff, and faculty with conditions that negatively impact mobility. It is not a taxi service that is available on call.
Eligibility
Students who wish to use the shuttle must establish eligibility with Disability Services (541-346-1155). Faculty and staff who wish to use the shuttle must establish eligibility with the Office of Affirmative Action & Equal Opportunity (541-346-3123). Documentation confirming a long-term or temporary disability may be required. Office hours for both offices are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday.
Departments seeking service for visitors should contact the Office of Affirmative Action & Equal Opportunity providing as much notice as possible.
Eligibility for students with short term injuries impacting mobility may also be determined by the Student Health Center or the Athletic dept. team physicians.
Service will be provided to students, faculty, and staff on a temporary basis for 10 working days, providing an opportunity for the student, faculty, or staff member to obtain appropriate supporting documentation. Copies of the Overview of Service and Operating Procedures generally will be available on the shuttle and the driver will be authorized to issue a temporary access eligibility card.
Priorities
A concerted effort will be made to provide service to any eligible student, faculty, or staff member who needs assistance with on-campus transportation to get to class, access university services, or attend to university business. However, where there are conflicts, the service wil be guided by the following priorities:
- Getting students with permanent disabilities to scheduled classes and class actvities.
- Getting students with temporary disabilities to scheduled classes and class activities.
- Getting faculty and staff with permanent or temporary disabilities to on-campus work-related business functions.
- Getting students with permanent or temporary disabilities to campus services (Health Center, libraries, etc.) and activities (Student Recreation Center, Beall Hall, EMU, etc.).
- Getting visitors on university business to university facilities, where arrangements have been scheduled at least 24 hours in advance.
- Unscheduled call-ins will be arranged ONLY when the shuttle schedule allows.
Hours of Operation
The shuttle will operate Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. There is not shuttle service on Saturday, Sunday, or on university recognized holidays.
Area of Operation
The shuttle is intended to provide transportation on the campus in Eugene. On-campus transportation means transportation to university facilities, some of which are not contiguous with the main campus. It does not include transportation to university functions at non-university facilities or transportation to non-university functions at non-university facilities.
Advance Scheduling
- Students must submit a requested schedule of needed class-related transportation to the shuttle driver as early as possible, preferably two (2) weeks prior to the start of the term. The driver will develop a shuttle schedule based on student class schedules, with first priority to those received at least two (2) weeks prior to the start of the term. Requested schedules can be submitted in hard copy to the driver or via the online form.
- Non-class-related arrangements must be made at least 24 hours in advance. (See Priorities above.)
- In cases where a scheduled pick-up is not necessary, users are to call in the cancellation at least 30 minutes (one hour preferred) prior to scheduled pick-up time (541-852-2561).
- In cases where a previously scheduled pick-up needs to be changed, users should provide as much notice as possible with the understanding that changes made with less than 24 hours notice will receive lowest priority in the event of conflicts.
Who to Contact to Schedule
- To arrange for class-related transportation, students must submit a requested schedule of class-related on-campus transportation needs to 541-852-2561 or via the online form.
- To arrange for service not included in the class schedule arranged in advance, students, faculty, and staff should call the shuttle service at 541-852-2561 to connect with the shuttle driver. If the driver does not answer, leave a voice mail or text message and the driver will get back when s/he is safely able to do so. As noted above, arrangements made at least 24 hours in advance will receive priority in the order outlined above under Priorities.
Arrival Times
As a scheduled, shared ride service, delays in the schedule adversely affect all students, faculty, and staff who use the service. To avoid delays, please
- Try to be at your scheduled pick-up point at least five minutes in advance of the scheduled pick-up.
- If you are late, the shuttle will leave and come back as soon as possible.
Service Cancellation
Services will be canceled for the remainder of the day for passengers who fail to make their initial pick-up of the day, unless the passenger has called in advance to advise of a schedule change.
Services will be terminated for passengers who miss three (3) consecutive days without contacting the driver in advance. To be reinstated, a student must first speak with a representative of Disability Services and an employee must first speak with a representative of the Office of Affirmative Action & Equal Opportunity.
Continuity of Service
To receive continuous service from one term to another, students must submit a requested schedule of class-related transportation for the next term to the driver a minimum of two (2) weeks prior to the start of each term. The advance notice is necessary for the driver to develop a route and schedule that will best meet all eligible students' needs. Employees with a need for the shuttle service on a regularly-scheduled basis should similarly provide that schedule to the driver two weeks prior to the start of service and inform the driver of any changes with similar notice.
